Article 13 - Employment Equality
Legislation |
The Employment Directive will be a landmark
piece of legislation for the British Muslim community and for
like-minded non-Muslims who have championed progressively for a
pluralistic and inclusive society. Although the legislation
falls short of the change envisioned by British Muslims, British
Muslims will for the first time have the freedom to pursue their
chosen field of employment in the knowledge that they are
accorded full protection and civic rights under British
employment and anti-discrimination law.
The Department of Trade and Industry, which
will be implementing the legislation, has consulted
faith-oriented bodies in the drafting of the Employment Equality
Regulation, pertaining to religion and belief.
